With the phenomenal demand for tattoos continuing to grow in recent decades, there are very few areas of skin that have not be covered with body art so it is getting increasingly difficult for tattoo enthusiasts to find a body part that is truly unique for tattoo placement. There are some locations that continue to be more popular than others when it comes to body art and some that are definitely much rarer so if the latter appeals to you, perhaps you should take a closer look at getting a knee tattoo.
If you like the idea of having a knee tattoo, rather than one on a more commonly requested location, there are a couple of things you should bare in mind before you proceed. Firstly, it is wise to remember that any areas of skin with shallow bones – locations with a lot less skin or tissue around the bone – will be a lot more sensitive to the tattooist’s needle. In other words the pain factor is definitely going to be much greater here than on a more cushioned part of the body so if you do not want a lengthy and painful experience then you should definitely go for a smaller tattoo design. The larger the design, then the longer it will take to complete and the more pain you will have to endure in the process. There is also the additional concern that the tattooist may touch your reflex spot however an experienced tattooist will watch out for this and recognize immediately if he does so and stop at once. Like when the doctor hits your knee to text your reflexes, your knee will automatically kick out possibly kicking your tattoo artist in the process or worse still causing his hand to slip which could be extremely detrimental.
There is another concern with a knee tattoo that could affect the design after it is completed and that relates to the clothing you wear against it. Ideally, you want to keep that area of your leg bare which will totally avoid your clothes rubbing against it. If not, there is the possibility that the fabric rubs against the knee either when walking or even sitting which could slow down the healing process or even damage the overall design. While you may want to reconsider what clothes you wear after getting such a tattoo, it may be preferable to get this type of body art during the summer when you can wear shorts or less restrictive clothing which won’t cover it up.
Consider the clothing you’ll wear for the next few days after getting your knee tattoo. Ideally, after getting any tattoo, you shouldn’t have clothing rubbing up against it. But clothes constantly rub up against the knees especially when sitting. Consider getting your tattoo done during the summer if you can wear shorts to work.
